MMOD Festival: On Disobeying The Rules And Finding Creative Community
For four days in November, Murcia, Spain transformed itself into the creative capital of the country. MMOD — Murcia Open Design seamlessly relayed the message that innovation and creativity will thrive no matter where you are. A weekend filled with inspiring conversations, art exhibitions, fashion shows and after-parties brought in talent from all over, proving that Murcia is on the up and up in the Spanish creative community.
MMOD brought in different creatives, both regional and national, to share their latest work, art and experiences with like-minded individuals. Fashion icons from Agatha Ruiz de la Prada and Ana Locking shared a stage with prominent up and coming designers like Juan Vidal. MMOD also allowed for designers like Pedro Lobo and Leonor Pando to show their work in new way. Murcia Open Design was just about fashion though. Those currently leading the world of independent publishing like the founders of NEO2, Fucking Young and Vein Magazine all had a platform to share their stories of their journeys and to celebrate success. Other creatives in the field like Daniel Levé and Gorka Postigo spoke on topics like owning your creative process and how we can create the future of the internet through digital design.
Having heard of the festival shortly after arriving in Murcia three months ago, it was a given that this was the time of year when one would be able to embrace the true essence of the creative community at it’s finest. You could feel it in the air and see it in the streets that there was a new sense of liveliness during MMOD, a constant chatter of what had happened and what was to come.
