Katrina Amato: Scattered Into Light

Katrina Amato is a woman of many talents. Her artistry knows no limits and her message remains overwhelmingly positive. As a choreographer, she channels free movement and paints a dynamic emotional journey for her audience.

In the words of Katrina:

"Scattered Into Light" was inspired by AOSOON's track "Under". It reminded me to "breath and exhale" when times were tough, and to pick myself up when I felt down. After a rather emotional breakup, this was a perfect way for me to express the thoughts and feelings that came up inside of me. What I learned, was that my deepest pain brought me to my highest joy. My passion has always been choreography, but for years I was denying that. I decided to face my fears and go after what truly made me happy. As a dancer since the age of four, letting go of my past and putting myself out there again has reenergized me and has allowed me to feel fulfilled. With the help of talented dancers I was able to create a piece that was dear to my heart as an individual and an artist."

About the Choreographer

Pendulum: "The Healer"

In the words of featured dancer, Nadine Olmo:

"'The Healer' is a Pendulum production filmed by Zach Rabago. It was inspired by the soulful sounds of Miss Erykah Badu. I have been inspired by Erykah Badu for a while now and felt like expressing some of her words through movement. Keeping her truthful messages alive. It was beautiful to connect with Zach and exchange passions with another artist. Creating Art and doing what we love to do with the hopes of inspiring others."

In the words of Miss Badu...

"...I find that everyone prays differently, at different times and for different things. But everywhere I go all over the world, people nod their head to the snare and the kick in the same kind of way, whether they know the language or not. They feel it and they zone out to it. That's what we have in common. And it is bigger than religion... I've seen it with my own eyes, and so have others. It can't be denied."

Watch Nadine as she explodes down the streets of Los Angeles with a rhythm so powerful it creates tsunamis of self respect. Witness the arising occur and wonder to yourself: are you really awake?

Devon James: "Still In Love"

Tale as old as time. Memories ring clear as night. A love that fades through fingers no matter how tightly fists are clenched. As humans seeking safety, run towards a place where we can sink our heels into something unchanging. “Still In Love” is the cascading emotion that keeps us up at night as mammals with hearts that pulse too convicted for the good of the vessel that carries it.

Devon James Stewart’s infectious track combined with the visual artistry of Justin Scutieri is an ode love that never quite fades. Featuring Omari Bailey and WildSpice Creative Director Alyssa Aparicio, this East coast/ West coast collaboration came about almost spontaneously. Best friends Devon James and Justin Scutieri were simultaneously coping with heartbreak and creating independent projects on either coast. When they reunited in NYC after a long time apart, Devon discovered this short film that Scutieri had put on pause. Devon knew right then that the footage would become his music video.

In the words of Devon James:

I wrote the song when I was on the plane to LA, worked on it a bit out there, sent it to a friend at a label and he said if he helped me get a singer then could he put it out, I said of course. About the video, Justin (Scutieri, music video director) and I had been going through similar things, emotionally with girls and our relationships. Both of us wanted to be with someone who didn't want to be with us - I had been having these really crazy dreams and it was starting to mess with my head a lot. So I wrote this song. I think Justin had a similar situation but a few months later. The funny thing is we would talk everyday and help each other get through the day or just try and relate to help each other. Then when he moved out here and I saw the footage, it was to another song. But as soon as I saw it and saw where the story was going I was like, "dude can we please please use this for my music video". So the song and video were done totally separate of each other, but I knew the parallels were there. Will (Wawro) really helped pull it all together, but Justin and I also did some editing. The whole process was really enjoyable because I got to have input every step of the way. Even with the remixers they would send me ideas and I'd give them (limited) feedback but it was just a really enjoyable experience to work with everyone on a project that I was so passionate about and to see others get excited was just really awesome, especially since its all my closest friends. Even my best friend matt who is an incredible designer did hand drawn artwork for the this. It feels nice to feel so loved and supported because this song is about that feeling of longing for love and sometimes the love we need isn't the love we want. I definitely figured that out during this process. For me personally, I need the love of my friends, they keep me going and push me

Premillennial Dispensationalism

Contort your eyebrows and fasten your seatbelts. Be prepared for an interesting thought parade. It will lead to more questions than answers. It will stir up bewilderment in your being.

In the words of the artist:

"...My point was to make it as absurdly kitsch as possible. Then i watched it on loop for an hour and through my unconscious conscious subliminally and strategically burlesque placement of dumb shit, decided that it was politically motivated but executed totally apolitically. Essentially my motivation was to entertain myself.

Pervert an iconic figure and a piece of hardware. Play it on a loop until it makes sense to you. It's funny, people!"

NSFW: El Guincho "Bombay"

“We are about to begin a journey through the cosmos” via this vintage 2008 music video hailing from España. Barcelona to be specific. Your imagination cannot handle anything more Spicy than this visual experience. Wild and crazy kids all grown up, there are more oddities in these 3,540 seconds than exist in anything you’ve come across before.

We too can live in this world... “solo necesitamos imaginación y escepticismo”, as this adaptation of a Carl Sagan Series intro brings to our attention.  Bring your wildest fantasies to life. Women dressed in glitter and only glitter, sexy time with statues, firecrackers, paintbombs and so very much more.

Pair what your eyes can see atop a steel drum explosion of up-turned indie en español, and you’ve got “Bombay”. Savor this blast from the recent past and lick your lips at the thrill of rambunctious rebellion

Without further ado, here’s a reminder that “The cosmos are within us, We are made of stars”. Get ready for an eyeful  of “space age exotica”.

Pendulum: "Dawn"

"As the sun rises with the bright glow of dawn; we root ourselves in the present... recognizing our past, envisioning our future."

This concept video features renowned dancers/choreographers Nadine Olmo and Justin Conte as they demonstrate the fluidity of their conscious movement, the foundation of Pendulum. Their impactful weightlessness is captured by Pendulum's own, Zach Rabago.

In the words of Nadine's, "This video marks the start of a new beginning for Pendulum Visual Art... It's the introduction to a new world of film... We wanted to just connect in a beautiful space doing what we love with open arms to the world as a celebration of our new journey. Our inspiration comes from the heart of connection... love, truth and art."

Memoir: "Los Angeles"

Memoir: "Los Angeles"

In Los Angeles, the highest highs will have you praising sunny skies and the lowest lows can blind you from your deepest sense of self. Memoir's latest video, "Los Angeles", wraps us in the myriad emotions this city delivers best. In an adieu to a land of promises, soulful vocals overflow with wisdom alongside images that whisk us away. This single's raging blogosphere success is proof of  lalaland's special place in every dreamers' heart.  A bittersweet reminder that no matter where in town you stand under swaying palm trees, you will always remain a few short steps away from the potent pang of broken dreams.

As Memoir's lead singer Dena Deadly admits, “This song is my heart break letter to the city I love”

Stay tuned for more from Memoir’s full length album, “Fire in Me”, out in early 2014. In the meantime bask in this free audio download.

Conquistador: "With a Love Like That"

Conquistador: "With a Love Like That"

You have to see Conquistador to believe it. One foot firmly planted in fantasy at all times: foreplay for the flaccid imagination. Neon waves of futurism in an intergalactic dreamscape prism. Dare you not dare to put forth your freest self as a result of 3 minutes and 46 seconds of pure rainbow world? “With a Love Like That” -- who could argue?

This LA native band radiates hyperreality and indulges our sweet tooth beyond aesthetic appreciation. Their sight and sound transcend tastebuds and envelop the senses. Allow your jaw to drop and accept the infectious immediacy of twinkle in your eyes.

“With a Love Like That,” we can’t help but want more.

VIV 1.0 Or They Must Have Forgotten by Scarlet Moreno

"VIV 1.0 Or They Must Have Forgotten"

By Scarlet Moreno

Check out VIV 1.0, a short film inspired by the vivacious female icons Dolly Parton, Brigitte Bardot, and the 1967 sexual space odyssey, Barbarella.  VIV 1.0 exemplifies the relentless machine of objectified female sexuality. Scarlet Moreno, the writer, director and star of the short film, takes us into the amusing, yet extremely lonely life of a fembot.  VIV 1.0 is a sex kitten whose simplistic existence demonstrates the role of the "dream girl": one-dimensional and vacuous; subservient and sexualized. Her imperfections, and quirks lead her to be abandoned. With spectacular shag pad scenery and enough fringes and frocks, VIV 1.0 provides a gorgeous painting of the daily life of the strangely robotic "hot girl" we've been sold by Hollywood.

Renaissance woman, Scarlet Moreno, is also lead singer of the indie band FlowerGlass, and director of their new music video, Spirit. Check it out at www.flowerglass.net

DJ Cat NYC & Sir DSS Featuring Daisy O'Dell

If you placed your tongue inside your face you wouldn't get as much cheek as you do watching this video for "Never". In the early Almodóvar days, it was common to glance sideways at the site where camp was setup. Extra extra, don't let the bold and the bizarre slip under the radar, unnoticed, this time. Take a moment to wonder, wide-eyed at the imperfectly pleasant precision of art under the ground and off the walls. DJ Cat of LOVE F.A.M.E Records and SIR DSS of LCD Soundsystem unite with Daisy O'Dell to raise questions, drop jaws and cock heads at the pleasantry of absurdity.

"Do you remember the night we lost our minds?"

TallTree presents "Felt Tip" by Teebs

TallTree presents "Felt Tip" by Teebs  (Unofficial Music Video)

TallTree’s artistic eye will bring tears to yours. As a videographer and photographer, he relays moments of frolickery by encapsulating natural movement. Understanding buoyancy is underrated and understated, but ever so important as it is filtered through the human psyche. TallTree paints poignant surreality on our widescreens. He evokes wings spread -- wingspan that invites sorrow to be wind beneath our whims.

 In the words of Talltree:

“Felt Tip” was a song that I just kept listening to on repeat everyday. It became the soundtrack of my life when I was learning to move on from my ex-girlfriend. I would listen to the song and just be sitting there with memories and emotions of a time that I had become so accustomed to but couldn't feel anymore. Editing the video became this process of recognizing my feelings, figuring out a way of expressing them through the video and then moving on from it all. It represents both the time of my life during the relationship and the progression of learning to move on.

None of the footage was staged or planned to be filmed for the purpose of a video, they are just moments from two years of my life that I filmed to remember and keep.

I'm a freelance videographer by trade, but when I have the time to create my own work, I try to make art from an honest place. The challenge is recognizing what you truly feel and then figuring out a way to express it in a pure form, without filtering too much of the original feeling in the process. The beauty though is that the piece will most likely change into something you weren't expecting, expressing and meaning more than what you began with. That’s the fun that takes me back to the camera time after time.

Never forget how easy it is to bring yourself back to the wild, open fields filled with freedom and youth. Never forget the moments that ease your mind and calm your soul.

The days when you remember that sometimes the sun can be the answer to what you’ve been searching for.
